Paula’s Journal: Week Two. Part 2

Sharon’s Reply
A cruise is an eating extravaganza floating on water! Food and drink is a major part of the entertainment. You have a chance to try dishes you would never have at home-nor in a hometown restaurant.

I would guess that most people who go on a cruise gain a few pounds. It is only a week, and your resolve to get back to reality eating will sustain you. Please report your weight the day after your cruise, and then after a week at home. You tried to offset your eating with the exercise — again this is very different from what you do at home. Good effort!

Some people find that after a week of rich, large and frequent meals, their appetite really goes up. Be aware of this, and if your smaller meals at home seem puny, add a large salad and fruit to the meal to increase roughage. Drink something at the beginning of the meal, or include some soup. Let me know how it goes.

Glad to hear that you had a great vacation and even managed to get in some exercise. I hope you can get back into your exercise program this week. The best way to see improvements is to commit to regular exercise and not let anything get in the way of your goal.

See if you can get five cardiovascular sessions in this week. The duration of each should be 30 to 45 minutes. I know you can do it! Good luck.
